Why not share Peace instead of a piece? :-)
Why not share Peace instead of a piece? :-)
The book cover for my book! Thanks to JR Giddens!
So, I am going to try one more time to stay awake through the entire movie! It is on TCM right now (1/28/2012 1:30PM 1330 EST).
Why do I keep falling asleep? I will try to analyze this today since I just had a giant mug of coffee for the occasion. I remember the music to be calming and most of the visuals, so that combo and the fact that it is 2 1/2 hours long could be the reason, but I will see.
Who wants to be known for falling asleep during an epic movie? Not me! Kubrick had some exceptional films!
Winter Weather on a Monday
Monday morning dawned dull and grey,
My hopes for sun were swept away,
By rain and fog and cloudy sky,
I need not ever ask it why.
For weather has complete control,
And might as well keep our lives full,
With wonder at the world we know,
As rain does fall and wind does blow.
Tomorrow will have some sun, I hope.
It’s easier with the shining sun, to cope,
With life and love and man and cats,
I hope they wipe their paws on mats.
“Howdy!”
I moved to Texas, when I was younger,
For newness that may feed my hunger.
They saw me coming from far away,
And I wondered if I should even stay.
The jokes they played, the laughs they had,
And then callin’ me a Yankee, was really bad.
They thought I wouldn’t fit in down there,
Where hats would always crease your hair.
Their boots were great and made a cool sound,
When they got up and danced around.
The Texas Two Step was that dance.
And I did it too at every chance.
I stayed and left and then moved back,
My mind was kinda out-of-whack.
I miss them still, the people there,
For they had style, a certain flare.
I’m back home now and love NC,
But one day I would gladly be,
Back in Texas by the Bay,
Watching Seagulls as they play.
I slayed the beasts who tried to imprison my mind,
With religion and views of the obligatory kind.
They wore habits of black and covered their hair,
But were kind to those who paid their fair share.
I threw them down with force of mind and will,
But remember them, I continue still,
They taught and they brainwashed those of the weak,
But my mind was strong and this I’ll e’er seek.
For strength for this hero, wasn’t outside,
But inside the brain she was told she should hide,
For men don’t want someone smarter she heard,
They want someone with thoughts like the brain of a bird.
No bird brain inside this queen of the throne,
For she will control what she thinks on her own.
Old Hippies
We talk and remember the things we did,
The thoughts we held when buying a “lid”.
Things have changed, but are the same,
We “do our thing”, but play the game.
We hear about “those damn kids today,” shame,
But we don’t fault them, we are the same,
Testing our boundaries about what will be,
Helped by us, like saving a tree.
Old hippies still thrive and make our place,
And do not worry ‘bout saving face.
We made our stand then and make it now,
It’s awesome man, “Don’t have a cow!”
What are your platforms you had back then,
Are they the same or with a slight bend?
Is it the rights of women you fight,
Or is it for those who have no light?
Whatever your stand, you’ll make it known,
By word of mouth or a big brass horn.
We won’t rest on some of our views,
Or with what we see on evening news.
